Meet the Team
As the Managing Partner I am responsible for the day to day management and long term strategic development of Advice First. Prior to joining the firm in 2004, I enjoyed an 18 year corporate career in financial services, which included executive roles in Australia and the challenging yet rewarding role of Director of Distribution for AMP Japan based in Tokyo.
From a business perspective, I measure my success in three ways:
- Happy loyal clients that actively refer friends and family to our firm
- Dedicated hard working team members that love their job
- A business that is sustainably profitable
I have been a licensed financial adviser since 1987 and have always held a genuine passion for assisting people to succeed in their pursuit of life goals. My wife (Angela) and I have been married since 1992 and we have two wonderful children, Emma and Tom. My career in financial services began in 2000, with my first 6 years spent working for Fund Managers and Life Insurance companies – learning the industry from the inside out, time which in hindsight was the perfect preparation for my life as Financial Adviser. In 2006 I joined Advice First as the Insurance & Risk Management specialist, and then became a Partner here in 2013.
I am passionate about protecting families and small business owners from unforeseen life events such as death, illness or injury. Too often, I have witnessed devastating financial consequences because a parent or a business partner neglected to put appropriate plans and protection in place. As a dad and business partner myself, I understand not just the motivations for insurance but also the realities of a budget.
Beyond risk management and insurance, I have extensive technical knowledge and practical experience in wealth management and retirement planning. I have been a licenced Financial Adviser since joining Advice First in 2007 and became a Partner in the firm in 2013. My formal studies (Business Degree majoring in Finance) and past experience (as a technical analyst, creating financial plans) have provided the ideal footings for my career as a Financial Adviser.

I joined the firm in 2008 to head up Advice First Finance. Previously to Advice First I spent 18 years as a lending manager with one of the big banks. I was delighted to leave the large corporate environment where it was all about “product sales”, to join a boutique business that genuinely puts the interests of the client first.
As our Finance Specialist, my role is to provide professional, timely and expert advice on:
- Home loans
- Residential investment property purchase
- Commercial property finance
- Borrowing to buy a business
- Loan structuring
- Budgeting and cash flow management
- Which lender is the right lender for you
After several years in the industry as a technical analyst, I joined Advice First in 2010 as a Financial Adviser and then became a Partner in 2013. As the firms Retirement Specialist, I have a specific interest in:
- Self managed superannuation funds
- Wealth management
- Cash flow analysis and budgeting
- Pensions and Centrelink
- Aged care
- Tax planning
I have completed a range of tertiary education qualifications that have provided me with the fundamentals to excel the financial industry. I have been involved in the industry since 2011 where I have enjoyed working across most facets of financial advice with a particular focus on wealth protection and investment planning. As commitment to my career, I have completed a Bachelor of Business (Griffith University), Master of Commerce (Griffith University) and recently completed the financial planning industry’s leading qualification of Certified Financial Planner (CFP) through the Financial Planning Association via Deakin University.
As an Advice Manager and a general practitioner of the firm, my role is to work alongside our Specialist Advisers to construct tailored financial advice documents. Our client research, analysis and financial modelling ensures that we capture what’s important to you and work towards achieving your goals and objectives together.
After years of study I completed my Diploma of Financial Services and became a licensed Financial Planner with Advice First in 2014. Prior to this I enjoyed a 14 year career in the industry, which included senior para-planning and managerial positions across Sydney and the Gold Coast.
As the Advice Manager and a general practitioner of the firm, I am responsible for the production of clear and concise advice documents that are provided to clients. These documents are provided to help you to understand all aspects of the strategy your adviser has developed for you. This includes a detailed explanation of the advice, the benefits it will bring you, your situation and a projection of what to expect for the future.
I am the Corporate Superannuation Specialist at Advice First and a Foundation Partner of the firm. I qualified as a general practitioner Financial Adviser in 1983 and held that license until 2012, when I moved away from providing private client advice to focus specifically on delivering superannuation and insurance solutions to our corporate clients.
My priority functions at Advice First are to:
- Help companies become an “employer of choice” by creating and delivering tailored in-house financial education programs to employees
- Work with business owners to develop a company superannuation and insurance plan that delivers valued benefits to employees
- Provide guidance and strategic direction to Policy Committees and HR teams
As a Foundation Partner of Advice First, the origins of the firm date back to September 1980 when I first qualified as a Financial Adviser and established my own business. It has truly been one of life’s great joys and journeys to see my own small business grow up to become one of Queensland’s largest and most well respected financial advice firms.
2012 represented the conclusion of a five year business succession strategy, and since then I have settled into retirement and now spend my time enjoying my three passions: family … friends … and fishing!
